Best Short Throw Projectors for Golf Simulators, Compared
For most home simulators the BenQ TH671ST (1080p, 3,000 lumens, 0.69 to 0.83 throw ratio, $949) is the best value. The Optoma GT2000HDR (1080p laser, 3,500 lumens, 0.496 throw ratio, $1,319) suits shallow rooms where the projector must sit close to the screen. For a premium 4K room, the BenQ LK936ST (4K laser, 5,100 lumens, optical lens shift, $4,899) is the top pick. Prices were checked on 1 October 2026.
Why Simulator Projectors Are Different
Picking a projector for a golf simulator is not like picking one for a home cinema:
- Someone swings a club in the room, so the projector must be out of the swing path.
- The projector should sit where the golfer will not cast a shadow on the screen.
- The screen is an impact screen that moves slightly when hit.
- You often need some light near the hitting area so you and your launch monitor can see the ball.
Throw ratio, brightness and mounting position matter more than cinema features.

1. BenQ TH671ST: Best Value
- Price: $949
- Resolution: 1080p
- Brightness: 3,000 lumens
- Throw ratio: 0.69 to 0.83 with a 1.2x zoom
- Input lag: 16.67 ms
The most common starting point for home builds. The zoom lens gives you some freedom in where you mount it, and the low input lag keeps shots feeling responsive.
2. Optoma GT2000HDR: Best for Shallow Rooms
- Price: $1,319
- Resolution: 1080p
- Brightness: 3,500 lumens
- Throw ratio: 0.496 fixed
- Light source: laser, rated up to 30,000 hours
With a very short throw ratio, it fills a 10 ft wide screen from about 5 ft away. That makes it a good fit for rooms where the projector has to sit close to the screen. The laser light source means no lamp replacements.
3. BenQ LK936ST: Best Premium 4K
- Price: $4,899
- Resolution: 4K UHD
- Brightness: 5,100 lumens
- Throw ratio: 0.81 to 0.89 with zoom
- Lens shift: plus or minus 60% vertical and 23% horizontal
- Light source: laser, rated 20,000 hours
The choice for high end rooms and venues. Optical lens shift lets you mount it off center, around beams or ducts, without the image quality loss of digital keystone correction. The extra brightness also helps in rooms with some ambient light.
How to Work Out Mounting Distance
Throw distance = screen width x throw ratio
Example: a 10 ft (120 inch) wide screen with a 0.50 throw ratio needs the lens about 10 x 0.50 = 5 ft from the screen. A zoom lens gives a range instead of a single distance.
